Poddy Leads Beavers To First Win Of The Season!

Poddy scored his first hat trick of the season and added an assist to lead the Oakville Beavers to their first win of the season, breaking a seven game losing streak.  This is the second season in a row that the Beavers started without a win in their first seven games.

The Black Ice jumped out to a quick lead 3:07 into the first period, but Smiles the Beavers goalie was solid after that.  The Rat responded with an "In the face?" goal 47 seconds later (being confused by not being able to remember how to celebrate) on a nice feed from Poddy and Big Al.  The Black Ice were quick to remind The Rat that it is "In YOUR face" after his goal.

The Black Ice scored their second goal which is barely worth mentioning.

Poddy knotted things up 5:39 into the second on a beauty of a pass from Van Wilder (who was sitting on the bench) all begun by a defensive gem started by the Beer Burgaler (it has been two games in a row that the Beer Burgaler has gone without stealing a beer, although Van Wilder did take his beer to the shower with him... just as a precaution).  At this point, it became clear that the first line of Big Al, The Rat and Poddy were going to have to be taken seriously tonight.

The Black Ice went ahead again late in the second, blah, blah, blah... but these eager Beavers weren't about to give up!

Worth noting at this point is that Smiles was seen for the first time not smiling on his skate to the other end of the rink between periods.  Speculation was that he was either under the weather still or he was serious as the Beavers were actually in a game after two periods.  Either way, his great game the Friday before (5 goals on 50+ shots)was carrying over into this contest.

In the third period, Old Nammer found his grove and put on a defensive gem with a few rushes, to the surprise of everyone, helping the Fieldmouse score his first of the season on a sweet feed from the Young Nammer 5:39 into the third (the score sheet incorrectly reflects this).  Young Nammer muscled the puck in deep and cleanly fed the puck to an unattended Fieldmouse who quickly and with authority deposited the puck behind a shocked Black Ice goalie.  The only thing bigger than the monkey on Fieldmouse's back was the collective one on the team's.  K-Lo was near to watch the goal go in.

This goal lifted the hopes of the Beavers and Corsky put on a skating display with his new flashy blades that can only be matched by his metrosexual personality.  Van Wilder was quoted as saying something about playing with Corsky.

Poddy scored the go ahead goal which turned out to be the game winner at the 10:52 mark in the third, assisted by The Rat.  Big Al was instrumental in keeping the puck in deep.  But Poddy wasn't finished there as he scored an empty netter with 38 seconds to go.  Corksy was quoted as saying (in disbelief) "Was that his third?"

This game could be a turning point for the Beavers as they look to extend their season high one game winning streak.  Both offensive and defensive lines seemed to click and played solid defensive hockey.  Now if only the rest of the games could be played against teams as poor as the Black Ice.

Game Notes:  The Beavers moved out of the Basement in D2 with the win.  Black Ice are the remaining winless team.  Smiles said "I had a great game Friday.  Maybe it will carry over."  Old Nammer brought the beer.  Corsky asked his boyfriend Poddy for a new stick and reckoned that if Al and Rat rubbed together, they would stick like velcro.
