Beavers Wack Black Ice in 2 – 1 Win! The Beavers are riding a three game winning streak following a strong all around team effort against the Black Ice on Tuesday night (Jan 9th 2007) that left the Beaver fans in a frenzy. Poddy kept up his strong play of late by extending his personal and team high season point streak to 7 games. During the streak, Poddy has 9 goals and 5 assists for 14 points compared with only 5 points in his first 6 games. For one of the few times this season, the Beavers were able to ice a full roster that made the bench a little more crowded than the team is used to. This did allow them to keep fresh legs on the ice (relatively speaking) throughout the game and resulted in strong checking at both ends of the rink preventing Black Ice from getting much of anything going in the game. There was an unfamiliar sense of jubilation in the dressing room after the game. Although, Corsky’s enthusiasm could be the result of the huge sausage party in the shower room after the game. “I’ve never seen so much cock in one place before!” he was heard saying. Corsky was pumped before the game with Van Wilder showing up. There was a hug. Guy the goalie played a solid game in net in place of the injured Smiles. The Beavers defenders kept the slot clear allowing Guy to see the puck clearly and make his saves look almost routine. If Guy wasn’t there to stop the puck, the Beer Burglar & Paddy tandem certainly was to mop up any messy plays and plug the hole. Whenever the Black Ice seemed to get something going, Paddy was there to stem the flow. It had been a few weeks since Paddy had played a game, but he seemed to know it was that time of the month that is blocking services were required. Smiles is out with a torn thingy in his knee, but could make it back in time for the Beavers’ next game. He was there with is son to provide support. Poddy opened the scoring at 3:32 in the first on a nice feed from K-Lo, fed through the ferocious Black Ice fore check. Although, it seems the score keepers don’t seem to recognize fine plays and kept the fine assist off the score sheet (jackass!). Poddy skated from his own blue line, through the defenders and muscled it past a brave Black Ice goalie. The goalie never stood a chance, but know one really knows how those Poddy shots go in because it’s not like he finishes nicely. Little Nam scored the second goal at 5:59 in the second. It was a classic Beaver goal, awkward shot, bounce off the goalie’s head and a trickle down his back. Little Nam’s goal stood and turned out to be the game winner despite his determination to pad the lead with a flurry of chances and near misses around the net. Speaking of pads, Paddy seemed in a particularly bitchy mood, going on the offence many times throughout the game with his dizzying puck handling. Only the Turkish Delight had better moves, testing just how many Black Ice he could get by before being stripped of the puck. The Fieldmouse has seemed to find a new role on the team as a pest in a Tucker-ish sense. ‘Mouse was hauled down when a Black Ice player craftily and intentionaly inserted his stick in the his blade while he was stating. A talent to be sure. “Come on ref, how is that not a penalty?!” 'Mouse roared. The ref ignored him so the ‘Mouse tossed the guy's stick down the ice. His temper has got him some newfound respect on the team along with his solid two way play on the night with a couple of scoring chances. The Black Ice managed to get on the score sheet at 5:13 in the third, but the Beavers responded with more offensive pressure and strong support from there fans. “Go Beavers, Go!” could be heard through the rest of the period. So determined the Beavers were to put away the Black Ice, that Van Wilder spent his final shift behind the their net sniffing for a goal. This goes against the Red Rocket’s “defense first, only one guy deep” mantra (even in games when trailing by two late in the third). It is widely assumed that Van Wilder just wanted Corsky to know what it was like to play with him. It was clear that Corsky wanted to pinch. The Beavers managed to hang one to win without a penalty in the game being called. Roles players like Rat and Nammer stepped up their game and… played a role in the game. Nammer threw his body into the play and in front of pucks with reckless abandon like he didn’t have control over it. Rat won crucial face offs throughout the game and was a constant threat around the net with that beauty snapper of his. Nice snapper Rat. If the Beavers keep playing like this, they could find themselves at the top of the world in E-Division. Next up: Beavers vs. Edward Jones, Tuesday January 16th, 7:30pm |
