Bet Your Balls! Beavers Extend Win Streak To Four! The Beavers strong defensive play continues and now their offense is starting to come around too. The Beavers shook off a 2 – 1 deficit after the first period, turning things around to exploded for 3 goals in the second. The Beavers never looked back, using their speed and long bench to take advantage of a short handed Edward Jones team. Coming in, this game was shaping up to be a battle of the two top teams in the strong E-Division, but as it turns out a Beaver win was never in doubt. Poddy continues to display his on-ice leadership, stretching his point streak to 8 games by scoring a pair of goals, giving him 14 on the year and good enough for second in league scoring with 21 points, trailing the league leader by 2 points. The game also saw the emergence of a formidable second power play unit scoring two power play goals, one each by Beaver rookies Fieldmouse and Little Nam. Rat opened the scoring at 4:59 in the first on a play started by Nammer who was temporarily filling in on defense since the Beavers can never seem to get everyone on the bench to start a game. This ended Rat’s 1 game scoring drought and would be his first of two in the game. Rat was reunited with the Turkish Delight and Poddy which seemed to allow Rat to rediscover his confidence. Edward Jones tied things up 3 minutes later and then went ahead by one to close the period on a shot that seemed to fool backup goalie Guy who was filling in for missing in action No. 1 Smiles. Smiles was scheduled to start the game, but was a no show. Team officials are still waiting to hear how long Smiles’ lower body injury will be keeping him out of the line up. Although trailing by one, the Beavers were not going to be trapped and made into beaver pelts this time. Edward Jones took a hooking penalty 5:31 into the second period giving the Beavers a one man advantage. The second unit took to the ice to finish off the power play. Their relentless fore checking strategy instead of controlling the puck paid off when Little Nam managed keep the puck in the EJ zone and feed the puck over to an open Red Rocket on the point. The Rocket rifled a shot towards the net along the ice that was craftily and gingerly redirected by Fieldmouse past a completely stunned EJ goalie. Fieldmouse’s 2nd goal of the campaign (first in official scoring) tied the game and vaulted him into a tie for 61st in the scoring race. This proved to be the TSN turning point as the Beavers never looked back. Rat scored his second of the game unassisted less than 2 minutes later to put the Beavers ahead for good. Poddy closed out the second with 11 seconds to go with a goal that extended his hot streak, assisted by the Red Rocket. “I don’t want to see Scott, I want to see the Rocket!” and see the Rocket we did with his smothering defense and chipping in with a couple of assists. EJ, being a bunch of morons, opened the third with another penalty allowing the 2nd power play unit to take to the ice again. The Beaver fore check allowed Nammer to get a clean shot past the net. The puck bounced off the boards to K-Lo parked at the side of the net. He completely fooled an out of position EJ goalie by generously electing to feather a pass across the crease to Little Nam instead of simply depositing the puck in a wide open net. Despite the offensive outburst by the Beavers, they didn’t neglect their defensive responsibilities. The defense tandem of Beaver rookie Beer Burglar and ragged vetern Paddy (Pads) are quickly becoming known as the Beaver Damn, blocking anything that flows their way. With a pass getting to an open EJ player in the slot, Beer Burglar swiftly got over, sliding across getting his pads in front of the shot. “That’s Beaver hockey!” Corsky roared. Late in the third, Rat shoved an EJ player into the boards in front of the Beavers Bench. The EJ player squealed like Ned Beatty in Deliverance looking for a penalty. When it became clear to him that the call was not coming, he yelled at Rat “YOU COCKSUCKER!”. Corsky, worried that Rat had been revealing secrets, shouted out “How do you know?” The EJ player hunted down the Rat like some nasty rodent, but realized he had to get back on defense when Rat picked up the puck and started streaky down the ice. With his legs out of steam, the only way the EJ player could slow Rat was to two hand him across the arm, but this was not enough to stop Rat from getting a shot off and just about taking the EJ goalie's head off. Corsky stepped in to protect his Rat and bitch slapped the offending EJ player into the sin bin. Corsky got 2 for roughing, but the double minor to EJ put the Beavers on the power play again. The Beavers new “Never let up” attitude was still going strong. The Turkish Delight was an eager beaver and wanted back on the ice in the dying minutes of the game. He promptly stepped on the puck as the teams were lining up for a face off and fell on his ass. On this power play, the first unit clicked to score with a 1:17 to go in the game. Poddy netted his second of the game, set up by Rat and Pads. “I played like shit out there. That’s my worst game of the year. I miss my other team. Look! My hair’s not even wet.” Corsky said after the game. Everyone knowing that Corsky was just missing Van Wilder, ignored him and savoured their fourth win in a row.
